How This Piece is Made

The embroidery is cross-stitched by hand using DMC embroidery thread by Palestinian women in Al Baqaa’ Refugee Camp, Jordan, through Boqaa Collective.

The hoodie itself is a manufactured garment; the tatreez is applied by hand. This is a repeatable design, with small variations in the individual stitching.

Description

Jouri takes its name from the rose. Red blooms and green leaves travel along the sleeves and across one shoulder, bringing the intimacy of a garden into Palestinian Tatreez. Each small cross-stitch gives the flowers their shape.

The dark-grey hoodie is made from 80% cotton and 20% polyester, with a regular unisex cut, drawstring hood and front pouch pocket. The floral handwork follows the body into everyday movement, visible at the shoulder and along the arms.

Palestinian women in Al Baqaa’ Refugee Camp, Jordan, embroider the finished garment by hand through Boqaa Collective. The design can be stitched again; the hands and individual stitches leave their own small variations.

Jouri carries Palestinian floral embroidery beyond occasion wear and into the ordinary hours of a day. A rose on the sleeve, a connection to home, and a living craft that remains in Palestinian hands.
